Welcome to Black Girls Know Best!

The Mission

Black Girls Know Best (BGKB) amplifies the power and knowledge of Black girls and their girlhood, while addressing systemic inequities that seek to harm them. We collaboratively design spaces of healing, justice, and cultural transformation. Through innovative programs, resources, and support, we drive collective liberation, positioning Black girls as the leaders of their own experiences.

The Principles

  • Black Girl Knowing

Black girls carry an inherent wisdom rooted in their lived experiences and cultural legacies. At BGKB, we honor this truth—Black girls are the ultimate authorities over their own lives and futures. Their voices don’t just matter—they lead everything we do, pushing back against erasure and celebrating their knowledge as resistance.
  • Black Girl Embodiment

We celebrate the beauty, complexity, and diversity of every Black girl. At BGKB, we create spaces where Black girls can thrive—free from societal expectations, seen, heard, and valued for who they are. Here, they can embrace their bodies, voices, and potential with pride and joy.
  • Black Feminism

Rooted in Black feminist thought, we recognize that the freedom of Black girls and women is central to collective liberation. We challenge systems of oppression—racism, sexism, classism—while uplifting the power, complexity, and agency of Black girlhood.
  • Reproductive Justice

We believe in every Black girl’s right to control her body, health, and future. Reproductive Justice at BGKB means fighting for more than just healthcare—it’s about dismantling the systemic barriers that limit Black girls’ autonomy, safety, and well-being.
  • Black Radical Tradition

Inspired by the Black radical tradition and Assata’s call to "love and support each other," we work toward tearing down systems of oppression and building pathways to true liberation, where Black girls lead with power and freedom.
  • Black Southern Tradition

We honor the rich legacy of Black Southern culture, where art, music, and activism converge. This tradition of resilience and innovation fuels how we convene, organize for justice, and create space for future generations.
